Unfortunately, my stay was not comfortable and disappointed. My original plan was to stay here for 24 nights. But the room had a strong unpleasant smell — damp, old, and stuffy. The bed, mattress, pillows, and blanket had the same odor I was uncomfortable sleeping there.

After the first night I woke up with itchy red spots on my legs, likely something bitten me while I slept.
I ended up buying my own mattress, pillow, and blanket. Every night I felt anxious about sleeping.

I later cancelled my last four nights of my stay (separate booking) I got a full refund for those nights. After I canceled, the owner reached out and asked if something was wrong. I explained the smell and bed issues. He offered to come to the room, but I declined because even if he had come, I wouldn’t have been able to move out due to the cancellation policy, only 50 % refund per a night I would have lost over $1200. Only 3 sets of towels provided for 3 weeks of stay. Overall the stay was disappointing.

a great little place that was a perfect base for our short stay in Kyoto. Yasushi was a helpful and friendly host who gave us an excellent recommendation for a ramen shop downtown - the best ramen we've ever tasted!
