I am a blacksmith, bladesmith with nearly fifteen years of forge experience. I was a finalist on History Channel's, "Forged in Fire," season 5 episode 13, "Horseman's Axe". The succes of the "Learn to Forge" experience I have been hosting for the past two years has inspired me to expand and diversify my "hands on" crafting and learning workshops at the forge. I now offer six different immersive "hands on" learning experiences.

It was great! Our host was friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. Took 4 hours to make a railroad-spike knife and sheath. Small cozy workshop. Bring warm clothing if not in the summer. Bring water and snacks. The experience takes a minimum of 4 hours, but AirBnb doesn't allow it to show that way. Please message host about length of time as some knives take longer.

Gave this experience to my husband for his birthday. And I went along to take pictures. What a fun experience! You can walk in knowing absolutely nothing about how to make your own knife and you walk out with a cool looking knife of your own design that you can feel proud of. Would highly recommend if this is something that interests you.

The knife making class is a very hands on experience, and you end up with a great custom knife! You briefly use the forge, and mostly grind, file, shape, etc. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you can get dirty - you are standing on a shop floor all day and will get a little grubby. We were so in to what we were doing that time flew by! About 1 p.m. someone stopped in to ask him a question so we took a break, since we hadnt yet - we had no idea 6 hours already went by! Our session went past 4 p.m. by about a half hour. Mike was a good host, but he did get short with us a couple of times when we did something slightly wrong. We are rookies. Other than that, it was a great day. He was funny, knowledgeable, and told us stories about how he got into this and the show he was on. The property is also lovely, and he has very sweet pets who will visit you. Fyi, there is a bathroom in the shop (only including that because I wondered about it before we arrived).
